During winters, ear infections in children are more common. Children are more susceptible to getting ear infection and severe pains. Ear infections can take place as early as at the age of 3-4 or at the infancy stage. Since the Eustachian tube in kids is shorter when compared to adults, they are more the victim of an ear infection. It is the Eustachian tube which connects the back of the throat to the middle ear. It directly indicates that antibiotics need to be prescribed. At the age of three, 3 out of 4 children suffer from an ear infection.

What are the main symptoms of ear infections in children?

Ear infections in children have the following symptoms:

  • Increased pain, fussiness, irritability in the ear during nights.
  • Slight fever resulting from the ear pain
  • A mild hearing loss
  • Ear discharge
  • Loss of appetite
  • Inability to sleep

Probable causes of ear pain and ear infection

Respiratory infections

Children suffering from colds and some sort of respiratory infection may suffer from swelling in the nose. This interrupts the fluid discharge. This way the bacteria and virus enters the ear to cause infection in the ear. Such an occurrence can cause fever, ear pain and hearing loss for a temporary period of time.

The narrow Eustachian tubes

Immature and narrow Eustachian tube is the main cause of ear infections in children. So, owing to the narrowness, the tube is more vulnerable to a blockage. This can cause the fluid buildup or accumulation in the middle ear.

Weak immunity system

If the immunity system in the child is not developed, there may be ear infection since the body is not able to combat the harmful bacteria.

Larger adenoids

Since adenoids are much larger in kids, they may restrict fluid drainage, causing an ear infection. Adenoids tend to interfere with the Eustachian tube.

How to combat the ear infection?

Children may be treated with the prescribed antibiotics. However, as per the recent studies, ear infection clears out without even the antibiotic. It must be noted that an unnecessary use of antibiotics may make the bacteria resistance towards the drug. Then, allergic reactions and side effects are pretty common nowadays. Eardoc, a suitable medication for ear infection, may treat the infection. If there is fluid secretion, you need to use the home remedies immediately. It will eliminate the pain and discomfort.
